Answer

The truth is, the other planets DO have atmospheres.

Planets other than Earth have gases surrounding the planet just like we do here. However, the types and/or quantities of gases in the atmospheres of other planets are simply not capable of supporting life like Earth is for one reason or another.

Venus, for example, has an atmosphere extremely rich in greenhouse gases such as Carbon Dioxide. Because of this, Venus is a VERY hot planet from all the solar radiation that is constantly beaming onto the planet with no way to escape.

Venus is not hot though find out more on wikipedia

How is there oxygen on earth but not on other planets?

This is because there is absolutely no trees on other planets.Mean while the trees are the propagators of oxygen on earth.hence the absence of oxygen on other planets.

Why is planet earth the only planet with air?

It depends on how you define air. Other planets in the solar system have atmospheres, but they have different compositions from Earth's atmosphere, which may or may not be called air. The gas planets have atmospheres made mostly of hydrogen and helium while Venus and Mars have atmospheres made mostly of carbon dioxide. The air we are familiar with is mostly nitrogen and oxygen. When Earth was young it likely had a carbon dioxide atmosphere as well, but through photosynthesis algae took carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere are replaced it with oxygen. More carbon dioxide was removed in bodies of water and deposited as carbonate rocks. The nitrogen, already present in the atmosphere, remained.

Why does the earth have fewer visible craters than the moon?

Because Earth has an atmosphere which protects it from most of the space dust and meteors. Most of them burn up in the atmosphere on entry, only the very large ones make impact. While on the moon, since it has no atmosphere anything crashes in and leaves a crater. An other reason is that there is no erosion by wind or water on the Moon, which causes the crater to stay visible for ever, while on Earth it fades away in time.

What makes earth a planet while pluto is not?

Pluto was re-classified as a dwarf planet in 2006 by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). A new definition for a planet was established, Pluto did not fit the new criteria, so was deemed a dwarf planet. Like Earth and the other planets, it is known to be spherical in shape and is in direct orbit the, but unlike the Earth and other planets, it does not `dominate` its orbit. That is to say that there are a high number of other bodies at the same orbital distance.

What planet was sputnik 1 supposed to land?

No one. It was launched into low-Earth orbit and stayed there until it fell back in the atmosphere and burned up.

How many planets are in the atmosphere?

There are no planets in the Earth's atmosphere. The Earth's atmosphere is composed of different layers of gases, while planets are celestial bodies that orbit around a star. Planets exist outside of the atmosphere.

How does earth sustain life while other planets do not?

we have an atmosphere

Why does the earth have seasons while other planets do not?

The other planets actually do have seasons.

Why does Earth only have oxygen?

It doesn't; Earth has many other gasses. Our atmosphere is mostly nitrogen; only about 21% is oxygen. It may be that you intended to ask, why does only Earth have free oxygen in its atmosphere, while other planets in the solar system don't. Free oxygen is produced by green plants (by a process called photosynthesis) and green plants grow only on Earth.

Why are gaseous planets larger than rocky planets like earth?

Planets which began in dense matter regions have greater mass, and are able to hold onto their large, deep atmospheres of light gases like hydrogen and helium. (Jupiter's diameter is mostly atmosphere, while Earth's atmosphere is relatively shallow at about 1% of its diameter.)

Why is the only planet that has life?

Earth has the ingredients for life while other planets don't.

What are the two main reason why Jovian planets have much thicker atmoshperes than the Terrestrial planets?

While terrestrial planets are made of rock and have gases in the atmosphere, jovian planets are made almost entirly of gases. If an atmosphere is made of gases in a planet, then the atmosphere of the planets with more gases will be thicker.

How are astronomy and earth science different?

Astronomy is the study of stars, planets, and the other things in space, while earth science is the study of the Earth and its landscape.

Do other planets not including earth have atmospheres?

yes, just like Venus, it is the hottest planet and its atmosphere is made up of purely carbon dioxide.

Why do some scientists think the earth has life while other planets do not answer?

Earth is just the right distance from the sun so that it isn't too cold or too hot. Also, we have the right atmosphere for life with just enough oxygen and carbon dioxide and so on. Hope this helps!

Why atmosphere is not used to classify objects as moons or planets?

The planet Mercury lacks and atmosphere while Titan, the largest moon of Saturn, has an a denser atmosphere than Earth does. Rather, planets and moons are classified by what they orbit: planets orbit the sun while moons orbit planets.
