Your heart beats faster for a combination of reasons.

Your heart's job is to move blood around your body

1a) Your blood does several jobs:

i) carries oxygen inside blood cells from the lungs to the muscles and organs that are working hard,

ii) Carries CO2 as bicarbonate, (waste) away from the hard working muscles and organs back to the lngs to be exhaled (breathed out)

iii) Carries heat away from hard working muscles, carries heat to cooler parts of the body

iv) Carries food to your organs

2) Your body needs more food, oxygen, heat removal and waste CO2 removal when you make it run around.

3) Your heart beats faster so it can move more blood to provide what your body needs.
