There could be various reasons for the tapping. My first inclination would be to check the oil dipstick level and be certain that the oil has been changed. Worn out dirty oil will wear out a motor fast. You could need the valves adjusted or something replaced in the valve train. However, it could be something more serious. If it is louder than just a mere tapping, I would say that you possibly have a rod knocking. If you catch this early enough, then it could be fixed by a mechanic with a few parts. If you wait too long, then the rod could eventually eat through your engine wall. The only safe way to fix that would be to replace the engine block or the whole engine.
The clicking noise you can hear is the starter solenoid clicking into place. If the starter motor does not turn the engine immediately, it is probably the best place to look. it sounds like the starter motor is faulty.
The noise is difficult to diagnose over a forum, but if the battery is charged correctly, and is hissing as you put it, the starter motor may not be working correctly, get a second opinion from a garage
your car has a starter motor that is powered by the battery when you turn the key. it is verry possable that this motor is shot. a mechanic can check very easily if it is
I have had the same problem with my teg. my mate has had the same problem with his prelude. I think it may be computer related. I have found that by turning the key very slowly just before it clicks seems to solve it. I don't undeestand why, but this works for me. This first started happening at about 240000kms Your problem is the solenoid in the starter motor. I had the same problem and got my starter reconditioned for $200au. starts first go every time now
Bad battery or bad battery connection. The click is the starter trying to engage, but lacking the power to turn the motor.
try checking the lifter(s)
ck your oil level make sure it is up to the top line........................you have a clasped lifter does it quite down when it gets warm
i have a very loud tapping noise in my BMW 318i e36 1993 engine. its extremly loud on start up then drops down to very loud when idling. the noise never goes away. I've had people say the engine was about to throw a piston, i need a new engine, etc what could it be and is it possible to fix?
jun 14,2004 rubber tapping is hard work,it can start as early as 2 am.
clicking noise when trying to sart engine usually indicates a flat battery.if the battery is not the problem ,the starter motor needs repair.
Could be a number of things:1. is the battery flat? check the lights on your dashboard to see2. do you have gas in the car?3. faulty starter motor - try tapping the starter motor with a hammer and try to start it againif it still won't start, try push starting it and then take it to a mechanic
Wear on the amature bushings causes it to get a little out of alignment, which increases starting torque above the amount that the windings can provide. The shock caused by tapping the pump will move the amature enough for the windings to overcome static friction and start the pump.
Weak battery or starter motor shorted out internally.

the Bering is going out or something got in the housing
sound like you cam followers (if overhead cam) or lifters are making noise. Could be low oil pressure to the head.
No. But it may give you a clue why you needed a jump start in the first place.
