Okonkwo is a villain. He kills enemy villagers. He shames Amalinze the Cat by defeating him. He fights his own villagers and demans those who he sees as less than worthy. He beats his wife and children, even during the Week of Peace. He almost shoots Ekwefi his second wife, with his gun. He takes 3 wives simultaneously, having stolen another man's wife to take as his second wife. He even kills his own adopted son, and kills a fellow clansman, albeit unintentionally. Okonkwo takes joy in war, and the memory of killing people. While not committing violence, Okonkwo encourages the rest of the village to commit violence against Christians. Okonkwo threatens to kill his own eldest son Nwoye, forcing Nwoye, to leave his house, mother, sisters and brothers, and the rest of his family. Okonkwo rejects any intention of reconciliation with Nwoye (Isaac). Okonkwo helps burn down a man's compound and then burns down the church. He continues his message of hate, saying that they should have killed the white man. Finally, he kills a kotma, and then commits suicide like a coward rather than face up to consequeces.
