the blood flowing in a vein is under a lot less pressure than in an artery, generally veins carry blood back towards the heart from the various parts of your body whereas arteries are the main outlet distributers from the heart itself.

Which artery in the heart is the largest and why?

Aorta..has to pump blood to the entire body. Pulmonary artery has to pump to the lungs...much less of a distance.

Is it more dangerous to cut a vein or artery and why?

An artery because blood is pumped through the arteries at a much higher pressure than the veins. Therefore if you cut an artery you will lose a lot more blood a lot quicker than if you cut a vein.

Why the pulmonary veins carrying the oxygenated blood and not the pulmonary artery?

it's a pulmonary VEIN because the blood isn't under as much pressure (because it has yet to get to the heart) where as the pulmonary artery is coming straight from the heart so is under more pressure. (the pressure is caused by the heart's contractions)

How do you differentiate between an artery and vein in the liver?

The hepatic artery in the liver enters from the bottom and is much smaller in diameter than the aorta or the portal vein that it lies above. The hepatic vein exits the liver from the top, carries blood through the top portion of the liver, and is larger in diameter than the hepatic artery.

Why the pulse in the carotid artery is stronger than the pulse near your wrish?

The pulse is stronger in the carotid artery than the brachial artery due to its greater size and greater blood flow. The carotid artery delivers blood to the head and especially the brain, so it must deliver a bigger percentage of blood flow. The brachial artery delivers blood to the arm which is at rest much of the time. The brain requires enough blood flow and oxygen that it is supplied by both the carotid arteries (2) and the vertebral arteries (2) as well."HealthYes! I found out that there is preventive screening for cartoid artery disease. Check out the related linkbelow.

Why are artery walls thicker than vein?

Because the blood flowing through them is at a much higher pressure, therefore they need to be thicker to withstand more pressure.

Why is a cut artery more serious than a cut vein?

An artery in the body is like the highway where veins are the main street's. In an artery there is much more volume of blood being moved at a faster speed. It carries more blood because it is bigger then a vein. If you cut a vein the volume of blood loss would be less because of the size limiting the flow. If the femoral artery was cut the blood loss would come out much faster and be much more serious. You could expel all of your blood in a matter of minutes before a life squad could get to the scene.

Why avoid too much fried foods?

Clog or block with a blood clot the blood from flowing through the blood vessels such as the arteries.

Why can you sleep in the chair but not in the bed?

When you are in a chair there isn't as much blood flowing to your brain, making it easier to sleep. When lying down there's more blood going to your brain, so it's harder. If you try sleeping upside down, it'll be almost impossible.

What blood vessel is damaged if blood is oozing from a wound?

Oozing blood would be coming from the capillaries. Blood from the veins would be flowing freely out of the wound and blood from the arteries would be spurting out.The wound would be near a major artery.

Can you die of blood leakage?

How are veins and artery different?

The walls of arteries are composed of muscle which allows the artery to widen or narrow so as to control blood pressure within. Veins have little one way valves in them to keep blood moving in one direction only. Blood in veins is under not much pressure wheras blood in arteries is under much more pressure as this blood has just been pumped by the heart.

What is Popliteal Artery Entrapment Syndrome in common English not doctor's language?

Popliteal Artery Entrapment Syndrome is a condition where the muscle and tendons in the leg compress the artery that supplies blood to the lower leg. This can lead to symptoms like pain, cramping, or numbness in the leg, especially during physical activity.

What is the rupture of a blood vessel?

If a blood vessel ruptures, it has developed a leak. In an artery (going away from the heart) the blood will leak much faster than in a vein (going back to the heart).
