It's often necessary for many reasons, public health being a good one.

Some insects/rodents can carry and transmit diseases because they cannot control their bodily functions and basically just 'go' wherever they are, in your pantry, in your dishes, in your food etc.

There are many more reasons, but those are a couple to think about.

Another major concern is the destruction of property. Termites and Carpenter Ants cause BILLONS of dollars in damage every year. Also as we in crouch further into the habitat of many wild animals, these animals are moving into our homes. Wild life control is becoming important to the safety and health of the public.
