The figure of Christ is larger than those of the disciples in order to draw the viewer's attention to him and make him the focus of the painting, even though he is kneeling on The Mount of Olives, behind the sleeping disciples. This technique is common international gothic style paintings of the early quattrocento, (although this specific painting was later in Botticelli's life) because realism didn't really take off until the mid fifteenth century with artists like Leonardo and Michelangelo. Lots of other factors in the painting show that Botticelli has abandoned his usual naturalist style, such as the foods of the clothes are smoother and less consistent with the shape of the bodies underneath them. The painting is rich with symbolism and like almost all biblical scenes, its purpose is to tell a story and convey a profound meaning, rather than demonstrate his artistic abilities or the wealth of the commissioner.

Can you please interpret the painting Agony in the Garden by Bellini?

The painting of Bellini can simply be descibed as the biblical passage of matthew. This picture dipicts Jesus' discipline and love for the Lord God and the egerness of God's love back. If you nitce in the top right corner of the picture an angel of God is hovering over the lands watch over Jesus. This small angle is holding a cup symbolyzing God's blessing pouring accross the land. If you look in the opposite corner of the Angel, you find three of Jesus' disciples sleeping while he prays, blancing out the good and evil of the picture.

Maundy Thursday how is it named?

The feast of Maundy (or Holy) Thursday commemorates the institution of the Eucharist (Holy Communion) at the Last Supper. The word "maundy" comes from the Latin word mandatum (commandment) which is the first word that Jesus spoke to His apostles after He washed their feet (John 13:34): • "Mandátum novum do vobis dicit Dóminus, ut diligátis ínvicem, sicut diléxi vos." • "I give you a new commandment: Love one another as I have loved you." The biblical the events of the first Holy Thursday were: • The eating of the Easter lamb or the paschal meal • The washing of the disciple's feet • The institution of the Most Holy Eucharist . • The first Mass at which Jesus Christ is the eternal high priest . • The first Communion of the apostles . • The first conferring of Holy Orders • The foretelling of Judas' betrayal and Peter's denials • The farewell discourse and priestly prayer of Jesus • The agony and capture of Jesus in the Garden of Olives

Could any of the disciples have seen Jesus sweat blood?

A:This passage is only found in Luke's Gospel (Luke 22:44): "And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground." It supposedly took place while Jesus was praying alone in the Garden of Gethsemene and the disciples were asleep some way off.The passage is ambiguous as to whether Jesus sweated actual blood, or drops of sweat that simply looked like blood. Clearly, there was no witness to this, and it is not told in any of the other gospels. Moreover, scholars have now established that Luke's Gospel was substantially based on Mark's Gospel, so the reference to Jesus sweating blood, or like blood, is an embellishment intended to impress Luke's original audience. No one saw Jesus sweat blood.

Why were Michelangelo's sculptures so lifelike?

God has nothing to do with genius, and it would be stupid to think that he did. Genius is scientifically explained. Michelangelo would probably be considered a genius, but genius is personal opinion rather than something that can be 100% proven. It all has to do with what you think about his accomplishments.

Do need knee caps to walk?

No, afraid not. For example: if you broke your kneecap (patella), you would be in absolute agony and that alone should prevent you from even moving the leg, never mind say walking with it. It can be done but it is extremely painful. With the proper medical attention and casting may people have managed quite well with crutches until healing has taken place.
