It shoould be the other way round. Urografin is not licensed for oral use and should not be used as an oral contrast agent. Omnipaque is licenced for oral used and should be used as an oral contrast agent. Check the manufacturer's product data sheets to confirm.

How is the contrast agent for a computed tomography scan given?

The patient may drink this contrast, or receive it in an enema. Oral and rectal contrast are usually given when examining the abdomen or cells, and not given when scanning the brain or chest. Iodine is the most widely used intravenous contrast agent

What is a non-contrast CT scan?

There are two types of contrast used in CT, oral and IV. The oral contrast is usually a thin barium sulfate suspension and is used to distend and coat the stomach and intestines. IV contrast is usually a nonionic iodinated liquid injected into your arm. This highlights anatomy with blood flow. A noncontrast ct scan usually refers to NOT using the IV contrast, oral may still be used.

Does a ct scan use a contrast medium?

Some CT exams are done w/contrast, some w/o contrast and some are done first w/o and then w/contrast. The body organs show up well w/o contrast. If the Dr. needs to see vasculature then IV contrast would be used. Contrast kind of "highlights" vessels. For instance, tumors need a great deal of blood to grow and if one is suspected a CT w/o may be done first and then a CT of the same area done W/ contrast to verify increased vasculature. The Kidneys and liver and heart all have allot of blood running thru them so these organs can yield more info when done w/ and then w/o contrast. There is also Oral contrast that a patient would drink to "highlight" the stomach and bowels for several different reasons/diagnoses.

Why would you not use toothpaste during the plaque control session?

Toothpaste can interfere with the disclosing agent used to visualize plaque during a plaque control session, making it difficult to accurately identify areas of plaque buildup. It's recommended to use disclosing agent alone to contrast against the teeth and highlight areas that need improvement in oral hygiene.
