Why did the French lose at the Battle of Waterloo?

Napoleon Bonaparte escaped from exile on Elba and reformed his Army. Wellington had previously chosen the ground, assuming that a returned Napoleon would make a move for Brussels. Napoleon divided the armies of Blucher and Wellington, and having done so, hoping he could defeat them individually, he gave battle at the place where Wellington chose to hold him. This place was just south of a little town called Waterloo.Or: Napoleon's escape from Elba and his successful attempt to regain the power in a very short time, alarmed all the European Courts leading to an immediate mobilization of their armies.Napoleon claimed he had but no hostile intention against none of the European Nations and he wanted only rule France according to the clear wish expressed by the French people immediately after his return. But in vain: the mobilization went on and the first two allied armies, those of Great Britain and Prussia were deploying their troops through the Flanders (The Belgium of today). The general strategical plan of the Allied coalition foresaw to concentrate the most possible of their armies before getting engaged in the hostilities and then proceed to invade France, as they had already done in the campaign of 1814. In so doing they would have again had such a numerical superiority over Napoleon's army to secure them the victory. But Napoleon forestalled that plan and invaded Belgium, beating the Prussians at Ligny, thus dividing them from the British and forcing Wellington to fight at Waterloo.Or:Two great armies met.

Why do most people say the war with Russia was actually Napoleon's downfall and not the Battle of Waterloo?

Some people have stated this, for the following reasons:The Russian invasion utterly destroyed Napoleon's army. The biggest force he had ever mustered was irretrievably shattered in Russia. His veterans, his elite soldiers, died here in numbers he could not hope to replace. This made it possible for the Coalition to drive Napoleon into his first exile. When he returned in the Hundred Days, he resurrected what he could of the Imperial army, but too much of it was lying in Russian snow for it to be what he needed.Napoleon's defeat and ignominous retreat shattered the myth of invulnerability that surrounded Napoleon. Up to then, the Emperor had never lost a battle that he personally commanded (I am pretty sure on that fact). It demoralised his surviving soldiers, and more importantly, alienated his citizens. It greatly reduced his support and made it harder for him to reassemble his Empire when he returned during the Hundred Days. After the 1812 invasion, Napoleon struggled to fight off the Allies and defend France. He showed some brilliant generalship in battles of this time, but the greatest general in the world cannot win without an army. The Russian invasion made it possible for him to be deposed once, and it was that, more than anything, that finished Napoleon. When he returned he was fated not to last long - All Europe united against him, for none could bear the thought of Napoleon ruling again.

What is a brief outline of the Allies' plans to defeat Napoleon in 1815?

The European Allies that had defeated Napoleon and sent him into exile were preparing to defeat him again as he returned from exile. A brief outline of their plans included the concentration of four armies. France's eastern and northeastern borders were targeted. An Austrian army of 200,000 was to enter France through Alsace-Lorraine, to be followed later in the Summer by a Russian army of about 150,000 troops. A Prussian army of over 100,000 was to march into southern Belgium and an Anglo-Dutch army, formed on a British nucleus already in the Low Countries was to focus in the north. When in position all the armies would conduct a simultaneous assault and defeat Napoleon. Hopefully for the final time.

Why were the europen allies able to defeat napoleon in 1814 an again in 1815?

Napoleon was defeated because he spread his attention to wide. He tried to go after Germany (prussia) and Russia at the same time. His flaw was trying to fight Russia on Russian soil during the winter. The Russians were ahead of them and burned all the supplies as the left. The Russians were used to the cold, the Germans were not. They starved and essentially couldn't continue in the war.
