Most acrylics are water based, some are not. Check the label for cleanup , and if it says water, then you can mix it with latex.

No, the only thing that will stop the peeling is to remove the loose paint, clean the surface of any chalk, grease and dirt, and then coat with a surface sealer, then repaint.

What to do when latex is painted over oil?

What a nightmare you just encountered, huh? The latex is going to want to peel, and keep peeling. Short of sanding all the paint off that you just applied you can apply a coat of shellac (primer/sealer by Binzer) directly over the peeling latex paint. It dries very quickly and has an awful smell but it will take care of the peeling paint problem. I bet you will never paint over oil again.

Can you use acyd paint over latex paint?

If you really want to ... yes. It might cause some issues later but should work for the most part as long as you apply a thin layer of paint. Acrylic house paint is normally a latex paint, so there should be no problem painting over a latex with acrylic. The only exception is if it is a solvent based acrylic silicone type paint. In this case, the coating will melt the latex paint, and if overworked while rolling, mix on the surface, which is normally a driveway or floor, discoloring the top coat.

Can you put latex over oil base?

Water based paint such as latex and acrylic do not adhere well to oil paint. In order to paint over oil paint you must sand the surface and prime it with a good quality oil or alcohol based primer and then top coat with a water based paint. Oil based paints will adhere well to water based paints sp it is unnecessary to prime before top coating, unless you have had to do any repairs to the surface.

Can you paint over epoxy paint with latex paint?

Yes, but it may not stay on very well. Besides, epoxy paints are very hard and wear resistant, while latex paints aren't. If the epoxy paint was needed the first time, repainting with something much less durable might not be such a wise move.

Can you paint enamel over latex?

Enamel is a word used to describe a finish, not the formulation of a paint. It simply means a hard reflective surface. Many people mistakenly use the word enamel when referring to oil based paints. So. if you are asking if you can paint latex or acrylic paint over a latex or acrylic enamel the answer is yes, however, I strongly recommend you sand the old paint first to give the top coat "tooth". If you are asking about painting latex or acrylic over an oil based paint the answer is still yes, however you must first sand the old paint and apply a good quality primer to it. Check with a reputable paint retailer for the best brand in your area.

Do you need a special product to cover eggshell before painting over it with flat paint?

Egg shells (used in many craft projects) are quite porous, and will give your paint an excellent ground. Remember however a flat paint will not be very durable (it should not be washed or cleaned) so consider a clear top coat in what ever gloss factor you like. If however if you are asking about the paint finish called eggshell (one having the ability to be gently washed) then it will depend on the age of the "eggshell" paint, the composition of the two (eggshell & flat) paints and the colour of the "eggshell". If the "eggshell" is older than a year, latex or acrylic based and a light colour, then a good washing with TSP or some other gloss remover, and going over it with one or two coats of a good quality flat latex, oil or acrylic paint should do the trick. Oil paint can be directly applied over latex, acrylic or oil... Latex can be directly applied over latex or acrylic but not oil... Acrylic can be directly applied over latex or acrylic but not over oil. If the "eggshell" is less than a year old, oil based or a deep colour, then a good quality primer coat will make the job go much smoother. (Note- use an oil based primer if the "eggshell" is oil based, you can then top coat with any paint formula)

Can you paint acrylic enamel auto paint over base coat clear coat factory paint?

yes u can use clear coat on ur enamel paint but first u hav to put primer then paint coats two - three coats depending on the requirements and then apply the clear coat single or double as required and most important thing is drying time shud be given in between each coats.

Can you paint acrylic enamel paint over base coat paint?

If the base coat used in your project is water base then yes, you bet you can. If there is any chance that the base coat used was an oil base paint then you cannot paint directly over it. The acrylic enamel will not adhere to the oil base paint and will begin to peel off as soon as it is dry. In which case a coat of primer is in order.

What paint do you use to paint resin?

Yes,you can tint it with liquid or dry pigments - although I do not recommend metallic pigment/flakes for beginners. You can even mix metal /aluminum,bronze,copper etc./ powder into resin and also paint with most types of paints,I do spray paint polyresin with same acrylic paint as I use on cars. You can also sand and polish tinted resin for painted-like shiny look.

How can I stop the paint from peeling on my 1982 Chevy pickup?

In order to stop the paint from peeling on your Chevy, you will have to sand down the affected area, and then paint over it with a new coat. If your 1982 Chevy pickup is peeling off, then it has been repainted. There is nothing you can do except to wax it.

Can you use acrylic paints on plastic?

You can use acrylic paint on plastic provided you prepare the surface first. Before you begin painting you will have to prime it with paint that is suitable for plastic, such as an enamel paint. Once you have finished painting with the acrylic paint, the project will need a top coat.
