Remove the spark plug wire from your 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis. Remove the spark plug with a 5/8 deep well socket, white turning it to the left. Reverse the process to put in the new spark plug.

If you see a spark then something is on pulling power from the battery. If everything is turned off on the vehicle then you should not see any large spark. You will see a very tiny spark because the radio presets and the clock will be drawing a slight amount of power, but if the spark is very large then look for something that is pulling power. A light on somewhere or a stuck relay.
Check the Vehicle Emission Control Information ( VECI ) decal located in the front of the engine compartment ( it will show the type of spark plugs to use and the spark plug gap )
If you are getting power to your coil and you still have no spark at the spark plug, you have a bad coil. Beyond that you will have to chase the electrical system. could be a fusible link.
could be the coil pack but did u check the timing belt .does it spin real fast, belt could be broken thus no spark

Bad coil?
Sounds like the spark plug wires are bad. Replace them along with the spark plugs.

The temperature sensor goes right on top of where the water hose from the radiator plugs into the engine. it is right next to the spark plugs wires.
