In the 1910 to 1920
Most characteristics were affected by the geography. Since they were in Northern area of Europe, the emphasis on color was different than Italian Renaissance, as opposed to mild climate and vivid view in Italy. Many Northern Renaissance works really weren't affected by Italian's view.

Greater emphasis was placed on the developement of human potential.
The Renaissance was considered an awakening in the fields of painting and sculpture. Many famous artists and sculptures were influenced by the emphasis on Humanism in the arts.
The humanist of Northern Renaissance placed a greater emphasis on Christianity. They sought to best combine the ancient Greek and roman world.
Strong Christian influence
Florence was the area the Renaissance started.
Answer from a CatholicI don't think that the Catholic Church has a defined opinion about the ideas and art of the Renaissance as such. I know that many of the Renaissance ideas are humanistic and many of the people at this time were Deists and opposed to the Church. The Renaissance, as a whole, spelled the death of the great Christian Middle Ages and put way too much emphasis on man and not enough emphasis on God.
Both the Renaissance and Reformation emphasized the importance of individualism, with the Renaissance focusing on human potential and creativity, and the Reformation emphasizing personal faith and direct relationship with God.
