"Esque" is a suffix that means "in a style that reminds one of."
"Michaelangeloesque" would mean "in a style that reminds one of Michaelangelo." but its Italian equivalent can mean by the hand of Michelangelo (i.e. Michelangelo's own) as well as in the style of Michelangelo.
