The Northern Renaissance however approached at a much slower rate and can also be classified as Late Gothic. Unlike the secular styles that the southern art sometimes portrayed, the Northern art stayed focused more on religion. These pieces used alot of iconography to display symbolism in there works. Also different types of medians were used. The Italians used a lot of Fresco which is actually mixing the dyes of the paint with the plaster in the wall as it dryed to paint a mural, versus just painting on the exterior of the plaster itself. The Northerners painted on a lot of wood, and made diptych and triptychs.

Some characteristics of the ideal Renaissance woman would be commitment to their husbands, having a lot of children, and educating themselves. They would do art and write poems but it was displayed as much the mens art.
The ideal renaissance women would have inspired, but not created, art. She would also be involved and educated in politics, although this was very rare. For example Isabella d'Este was very involved in politics and defended her husband while he was in jail. This was very rare and made her the ideal Renaissance woman.

Yes Feminism was a part of the renaissance ideal. Renaissance means literally "rebirth" and feminism was not a rebirth but a birth of women's idealism. Even though it wasn't a rebirth of an idea it was still an renaissance ideal in that it re-birthed women in general to a higher status in society. Women before the renaissance were insignificant. During and after the rebirth they played bigger roles in society as artist and writer. Both of which were originally only men's occupations.
