The 1940s saw a palette influenced by wartime practicality and post-war optimism. Earthy tones like olive green, khaki, and navy blue were prevalent due to military themes, while vibrant colors like bright reds, yellows, and pastels emerged in fashion and home decor after the war. These colors reflected both the austerity of wartime and a desire for renewal and joy in the post-war era.

The sundress, as a specific style of dress typically characterized by its light, breezy fabric and sleeveless design, does not have a single inventor. It became popular in the 1930s and 1940s as a casual summer garment, influenced by the fashion trends of the time. Designers like Claire McCardell played a significant role in popularizing the sundress, making it a staple in women's summer fashion. Its roots can be traced back to earlier styles, but it evolved into its modern form through various designers and cultural influences.
