When the ancient people viewing them started giving them names.
The names of colors have been developed over centuries and are influenced by various cultures and languages. Early humans named colors based on natural elements, such as plants, minerals, and animals. Over time, these names evolved, and each culture contributed to the lexicon of color names. Today, standardized color naming systems, like those used in design and art, help provide consistency across different contexts.
Pastel colors are colors that hide under names like soft, pale, washed-out. On the saturation scale in colors these colors are darker than whites and lighter than light colors. Pastel colors are the colors we associate a lot with Easter and spring time. Turquoise, lavender, primrose yellow, baby pink, baby blue, a soft green called jade green, peach, apricot, salmon pink are all pastels.
The concept of naming colors dates back to ancient civilizations, but it's difficult to pinpoint a specific individual who named the first color. Early humans likely identified and named colors based on their surroundings, with terms evolving over time. The ancient Greeks were among the first to categorize colors systematically, with philosophers like Plato and Aristotle discussing color theory, but the specific names they used were influenced by their language and culture.

Everything that is often used must have name. Such objects as colors were often used by people and people decided to give them names for simplicity. They were not invented. Only its names were invented. Colors as object are innate nature property so explanation lays in quantum electrodynamics (because colors represent photons of diffrent wave length and photons secret isn't yet enough reseached). So if you mean invention of colors as objects i.e photons - they are not invented fully yet
In the early 1800's, an English man by the name of Sir Roseart Crayola looked at a rainbow and started to think. He noticed that little kids that wanted to show their parents a specific color would just point and say that one. In order to help the little Brits he decided to name the colors. He decided the first letter of every color by using the name of his best friend, Roy G. Biv: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet. He picked this name because there are seven colors in the rainbow and there are seven lettters in his friends name.RedOrangeYellowGreenBlueIndigoVioletThat is how colors were born
