I have two of them in my garage right now. They are 5.5 hp engines. You need to put a clutch on the output shaft that will allow the engine to turn at idle, but as soom as you give it gas the clutch will disengage and it will turn a chain that is connected to a sprocket on the rear axle. I hope this helps you.Brad.
but this is only the beginning. lawn mower engines have a vertical crankshaft, and a go-kart needs a horizontal. converting the two is not as easy as it seems. if you have a 4-stroke, you need to find some way of re-arranging the oil sump/oil pump, so that it works horizontally. not only that, but you have to reposition the carburettor so it is up the right way, if you can just turn it around you are lucky, but if your not, your going to have to drill and tap extra holes. if you do not do this, it will not work.
if you have a 2-stroke, you don't have to worry about the oil, as it is in the fuel, but you still have to reposition the carburettor
just go to http://gokartguru.com/go_kart_building_202.php
actually, you can make your own go kart with a vertical engine, but you need to have the rear end of a garden tractor to do it because it already has the pulleys on the axle
thanks,
Jake
EDIT: I just recently built a go cart out of a lawn mower. I used a vertical shaft engine and a external transmission from a riding lawnmower. Just slip a belt around the shaft on the engine to the pulley on the tranny and whala!
nitrous and a bigger engine
No you can't use a golf cart mower on a lawn mower. You have to find a muffler that matches the make and model of the lawn mower.
cart+steam engine
A billy cart is a simple go-kart or cart that operates by using gravity and momentum for movement. It typically has a basic structure with wheels, a platform or seat for the driver, and a steering mechanism. The driver propels the billy cart by pushing off or using a slope to build up speed, allowing the cart to roll along through inertia.
Just shape your cart in a capital I formation See related links below for a great diagram of a basic cart.
It depends. There is an EZ-GO cart which is battery powered, which runs sort of like an electric car but without an engine the battery powers the wheels, or there is the gas powered which pretty much runs the same way as a lawn mower.
Before planning to build the go cart it is important to decide the size of the cart. If you planning for youngsters then the preferred size would be 30 inches wide by 50 inches long and for adult drivers, 40 inches by 72 inches. Some of the things you would need in order to build a go cart are : Metal Tubing, Steel Rods, axle, steel plate, engine, seats.
The I-Head engine has the intake and exhaust valves integrated into the head assembly. A flat head engine houses no moving parts. A common example of a flat head engine is a go-cart or lawn mower engine. Hope this helps
a couple that come to mind are a go cart and a generator
build one
u cant
You can get an automatic choke for small engines at most hardware stores that sell mower parts. You can also find this item at many small engine repair shops or even golf cart shops.
