There are many times in a persons life where they may have provided excellent customer service. They may have been working in a department store and helped someone exchange something for example.

In my career in sales, I always followed the rule of going that extra mile. I once met a guy who was considering taking out an income protection insurance policy and having spent some time with him and his wife, the policy was purchased on the basis that it met his needs exactly. I also noticed that the subject of holidays was to the fore in his wife's mind and she mentioned that touring New Zealand was something they had always wanted to do but never got time to make it happen. The next day I picked up some brochures from a travel agent and sent these on to the couple with a covering note to say thank you for your business and I hope these brochures might be of interest. A few days later, I got a call to ask if I would visit again as there was something they wanted to discuss with me. When I arrived, the couple explained that the brochures had been so interesting and fitted perfectly with the trip they had in mind but just never got around to so they thought, why not go ahead and book it! The brochures just added a visual dimension to the dream and that was enough to change the dream into action. Whilst there, the guy also decided to follow up a suggestion I had made that the policy he had taken out would be of interest to his employees so he decided to take out 42 policies and pay for them himself as an added employee benefit. I got a postcard too. Nothing special here, just following the rule that if you go the extra mile, you get it back ten fold.
