"585" is a European marking which means that the bracelet is 58.5% pure gold--this is the same as 14K gold. If it had been marked "750", it would have been 75% gold which is the same as 18K. All gold jewelry is alloyed with other metals for strength (and often to change its color from yellow to white or red), since pure gold (24K gold) is too soft to be durable when worn as jewelry. These other alloys make up the rest of the weight of the jewelry item, and are usually copper, silver or nickel depending on the gold color.
