You can use a small flathead screwdriver to pop the back off. The battery is a 3V lithium battery which is a round silver battery about the size of a nickel. You'll need to visit your local Home Depot or somewhere similar to purchase since it's doubtful you have these laying around the house. I'm on my way to pick one up now.
