There are many ways that homeless people survive on the streets, many of them are listed below, but there are many others that are not listed. Necessity happens to be the mother of ingenuity and you will find a lot of that on the streets.

Hunger is the perfect cure for vanity and pride. Homeless people have three major issues: Hunger, Shelter and Safety.

Eating from garage cans or digging in dumpsters behind fast-food restaurant.

Restaurant or grocery stores is probably the most common hunger mitigation strategy.

Go to the local library and ask about homeless projects, and maps to the locations of where there are soup kitchens

Go to welfare or social services asking for information

Go to homeless charities for help.

Try to buy a simple fishing rod to fish the local rivers. Bait could simply be worms.

Shelter includes protection from the rain and/or sun; someplace to lay down and sleep; Clothing is critical. Most homeless people can obtain a minimum amount of clothing from shelters, even of the shelter it self is full.

Go To Libraries For Warmth

Road Bridges for shelter from the preferably ones not near rivers, as the morning mist, etc.

Sleep under park benches, card board for mattress. use the seat above as a framework like a tent a put some waterproof covering on top of the seat to retain heat, and protect from the elements.

Tree, can be used as simple wig-wam with proper materials

Dig a earth sleeping bag. If you have enough time dig simple earth blanket.

Cleanliness

Do as the Victorians did, do a stand up wash. Buy some shower gel, run some hot water into a basin add shower gel. Wash yourself from top to toe. Hair only wash if is not too cold.

Use different public toilets, and convenience store, try not to use the same place every day.

If using convenience stores, make sure that you do at a time where there are not many people around. Probably most unlikely to have people around from 9:30 - 11:30 14:30 - 16:30. Check when the cleaning times are?

Safety means staying alert.

Don't tell people you are homeless unless you trust them or you think they can help

Not just other homeless people, but non-homeless people who prey on the weak. The will either form groups or small communities, stick together at least in pairs, or even collect a stray dog to serve as a companion and alert them to harm.

Being homeless is a reality, and it is not just hobo's and bums on the street. The next time you see a homeless person, ask your self at what point would you eat from a garbage can. Hunger does not play favorites, and your whole life will change perspective if you ever reach that point. Stay focused and you will survive.

When people abuse you? Don't reply to their words, just turn away and smile. In some ways they have it harder than you.
