NO, There is an axel ID # on the Rear End Axle Tube, front, Passenger side that can be used to ID the rear end
fords had several different axles. look on id plate on side of door then look in owners manuel to see what axle corresponds to the number on the id plate
Most of these trucks have Dana 60s in the front of them. Look up the markings of a "Dana" axle on Google and the ID charts should help you identify your axle.
On most models, the rear washer id filled in a tank inside of the rear hatch. it is on the left just past the door frame.
Check the drivers door for the information label and the axle model will be listed under the "AXL" heading. You can cross reference that axle code to a reference chart for Ford differentials. Posi axles are listed as LS=Limited Slip in the reference chart. There should also be a metal stamped ID tag on one of the differential bolts that ID's the type of axle you have.
The differentials should have small metal tags with ID numbers stamped into them bolted to the diff cover. Type those numbers into Google and you should get a hit on your axle ID. I don't know Dana numbers offhand, but if the rear has an "88" stamped in the tag it's an 8.8. The tag will also give you the gear ratio and tell you if is open or has a trac loc.
you've got a Ford 8.8 with either 3.55 or 3.73 gears.
Is this a Ford truck? If so, put id Drive (not overdrive) to drive it as necessary. If you are a commercial entity, standard practice is to ignore the problem. To fix, rebuild the tranny? If this isn't a Ford, please ask the question again specifying the vehicle type including make model year engine and transmission.

check out the ID plate - That plate is located on most vehicles on the driver's side door jam and will list the model year as well as the actual date of manufacture.
