The orthodontist will give you a little key. It's basically a blue plastic stick, a little longer than your index finger, with another little metal stick on top, about the length of your nail. There's a hole in the expander that the metal stick goes into, and you push it towards the back of your throat. Do that every night for as long as the orthodontist wants you to. It was 28 days for me. Over time, you should have a gap between you teeth. If you miss a night, don't do two turns the next night, just keep going from where you left off.

If you want, you can, but it's gonna be painful.
I got my expander in today about 12 hours ago, I've already turned the key twice. an expander works by sticking a thin wire into a small hole an cranking it one time. as the wheel with the key in it turns, it pushes outward. Mine didn't hurt the first or second time. It just feels like tightness and pressure on your teeth.
how much does an dental expander coast?

Yes, it depends how long you have to wear your expander, but the gap can become pretty large especially if you previously have/had a gap between your two front teeth. :(
There are only two ports available which are made by expander hardware. These ports include the following products: a port expander and a port replicator.

A palate expander is another term for a palatal expander, a device used to widen the upper jaw so that the bottom and upper teeth will fit together better.
I had a palate expander a few years ago. I think that the worst part about it was feeling like I couldn't talk or swallow, but that only lasted about 3 days. I don't remember any serious pain from it (and I have a very low pain tolerance), except for when it was put in and taken out. It certainly didn't hurt more than braces did. If you have not yet gotten your expander, be prepared for some discomfort when it is being put in, and also some difficulty talking and swallowing for a few days afterward. But don't worry - it definitely won't hurt every day, and soon you'll forget you're wearing it!
