What happens in the upstroke of the piston in the crankcase in a four stoke engine?

What is happining in a four storke engine?

OK first you have the 4 strokes which are intake, compression, power, and exhaust. Intake is where the fuel and air are brought into the cylinder. compression is when the cylinder moves up compressing the air and fuel are compressed. power is where the spark plug ignites the fuel and air pushing the cylinder down. and exhaust is when the spent gas and co2 are pushed out of the cylinder. Hope this helps.

What valve will be open when the number one cylinder is at top dead center?

Presumably we are talking 4 stroke? If so, none or the exhaust - it will be at the top of the compression or the exhaust stroke

Why am I losing compression in cylinder 283 Chevy?

Bad are burnt intake or exhaust valve. Pistion rings broken, Burned pistion. Blown head gasket. That is all that would cause no compression are a loss of compression.

Why is the oil coming from exhaust on 85 harley Davidson sportster?

possibly a blown oil ring, pull cy and check rings. ANSWER: Rather then pulling the cylinder, you can do a compression test on both cylinders and compare them to what the factory says they should be at. If you have low compression in one cylinder and oil coming out of the exhaust, most likely then you have a bad oil control ring on the piston.

What are the four steps of the combustion cycle?

The four steps of the combustion cycle are intake, compression, power, and exhaust. During intake, the air-fuel mixture is drawn into the cylinder. In compression, the mixture is compressed by the piston. In the power stroke, the spark plug ignites the mixture, causing it to expand and drive the piston down. Finally, in the exhaust stroke, the spent gases are pushed out of the cylinder.

Is timing set on exhaust or intake stroke?

Neither, on a 4 cycle engine the timing is set at the end of the compression stroke of the number 1 cylinder.

What should be done if there is white smoke in the exhaust?

white smoke is the result of coolant mix with gas in cylinder and mean you have blown head gasketusually there are two cylinder next to each other have low compression

What causes no compression in only one cylinder white smoke in exhaust with water and oil under tailpipe?

Blown head gasket. Take to dealer immediately.

What are the signs of a blown cylinder head on a Kia Sportage?

Loosing Coolant, coolant in the oil, a sweet smelling exhaust, low compression, overheating, and possibly a miss.

1996 Nissan Pathfinder change exhaust manifold?

What engine???????? You should refer to repair manual if not familiar with auto repair and understand the terminology before attempting Remove nuts holding exhaust manifold to cylinder head & remove nuts/bolts holding exhaust manifold to exhaust pipes Use new exhaust manifold gaskets and install the new manifold securing the manifold to cylinder head (may need to but new nuts and or bolts) by "snugly" tightening manifold to cylinder head if not refering to repair manual

If the timing mark is at tdc will the number one cylinder always be on the compression stroke in a 79 Chevy 350?

No. When the timing mark is at tdc, #'s 1 & 6 are both up. One is up for compression, the other is up for exhaust.
