It depends on what the data is, what format it is, what size it is and what you want to do with it.

Assuming it is quantitative data and you want to check 1 million pieces of data for any duplicates, certain pieces of software are created to analyses this data for you.

An example is IDEA software. This data analysis software can analyse nearly any format of data and can analyse up to 2.1 billion cells of data per sheet; now that's more than enough for most.

However, this is just an example of analysing a large amount of quantitative data on a computer. It all depends on what data you have and what you want to do with it, which I can't answer with 100% accuracy due to the vagueness of the question!
