support you engine from below, you will have to remove the coolent reservior, it only has one 10 mm bolt holding it down and it will just pull up. I dont disconnet the reservior lines, however it woudl be a suggestion to disconnect the electrical connector. Then its really simple to do from there, I use a 5/8 socket and remove all the nuts from the studs. There are only 5 nuts to be taken off and of course the engine bolts themselves. Hope it helps, when you get to working on it, you will say, wow this is really simple.
4 - Right lower bottom rear and Right upper front, Transmission mount and Torque mount
For a 99 cavalier 2.2 there are 2 mounts. The upper mount near antifreeze recovery bottle and one (dog bone) mount directly under the other, in front of oil pan. 1- transmission mount.
To remove the upper right motor mount on a 2002 Cavalier with a 2.2L Ecotec engine, first ensure the vehicle is securely lifted and supported. Remove the bolt securing the mount to the engine and the bolts that attach it to the frame. You may need to remove any components obstructing access, such as the air intake or battery. Once all bolts are removed, carefully lift the mount out of its position.
put a jack under the oil pan and take off the upper motor mount
There are a total of 3 engine/transmission mounts for the 1998 Cavalier with the 2.2 liter engine. There is an upper motor mount on the passenger side toward the front of car next to the coolant reservoir. There is a lower dogbone mount underneath the a/c compressor. and lastly, there is a transmission mount on the driver's side. It is held in place by a bracket.
Which mount are you looking for? There are two, the upper mount and the lower dog bone mount.
1979? 1982 is first year. Answer I a '97 Cavalier.. It probably sounds like loose lumber. That will be the UPPER rear shock MOUNT.
The rear engine mount is located almost directly in between the upper and lower dog bone motor mounts. Its very difficult to see, and even more difficult to change, if you don't know what you are doing I recommend paying someone to change this. It bolts into the center of the motor, pretty much the only way to see the mount is to look at the inner fender next to the engine and look for the bolts that secure the mount to the frame. It also helps to have knowledge of what the motor mount looks like beforehand.
4 total. Two on the passenger side (upper and lower) and two on the driver's side, upper and lower. The "dog bone" type strut mount is the same for eithe side.
For the upper motor mount replacement-Passenger Side-support engine with a jack, careful where you put the jack head so as not to bend and damage anything, don't put it under the oil pan!.Take out the bolts in the motor mount that go into the engine block,Lower engine just an inch or so with the jack, then take out the one bolt in the middle of the motor mount where the rubber is.Put in new motor mount and reverse these instructions to install. You may have to wiggle things around with the jack and your hands to get the bolts to start threading and line up when you are going back in with the new motor mount.
2 motor and 1 transmission mount holding it in place****If your engine 3.4 l then actually 3 motor and 1 transmission(in front of engine upper 2 supports ,one passenger side under motor and one driver side transmission mount)
The idler pulley should just have a bolt running through it into the passenger side of the engine. If I remember correctly, it is just below the upper engine mount.
