Open the rear door. And what holds the light assembly is 2 bolts. Maybe Phillips or torx? Remove those, then there are retaining clips that hold the assembly in there good, you just have to force the light out. Then to get the bulb out just twist on the plug which the blown bulb is attached.
The "clips" are actually more like "spears" or "snaps". If you are replacing the left lamp (brake, backup, turn signal) place one hand each at the top and bottom of the assembly then in somewhat of a jiggling motion use the hand at the top to "turn" the assembly from the 12 o'clock position back towards the 9 o'clock position. With a couple/few tries it should come loose. Repeat the same on the right side only go from the 12 o'clock position to the 3 o'clock position. I would recommend to replace both sides at the same time and the bulbs usually/many times come 2/pack.
You must remove the entire light assembly as follows: Lower the tail gate and remove the two small screws that screw into the side of the assembly. Next remove the two screws on the outside of the assembly that are accessible through long holes on the outside of the assembly. Pull the assembly back to expose the rear where the lights are located.
To change the rear brake lights on a Mazda Tribute, first, open the rear hatch and remove the screws or clips holding the tail light assembly in place. Carefully pull the assembly away from the vehicle. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the old bulb by twisting it counterclockwise. Insert the new bulb, reconnect the electrical connector, and reattach the tail light assembly. Finally, test the new brake light to ensure it's functioning properly.

Remove the screws or clips securing the assembly and gently pull it away from the vehicle. Twist the bulb socket counterclockwise to remove it, replace the old bulb with a new one, and then reassemble the tail light by reversing the steps. Make sure the new bulb works before fully securing the assembly back in place.
