The solenoid electrical sensor is responsible for allowing a shift in gears. The sensor in a Jetta VR6 can be fixed by a dealer mechanic.
P0785 Shift/Timing Solenoid Malfunction/ 3-2 Shift Solenoid Circuit Electrical
On a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta, the shifting solenoids are situated inside the valve body of the transmission. The valve body is the brain of the transmission.
It does not have a 3-4 shift solenoid. It has a 1-2 and 2-3 only. What you are calling 4 is overdrive, no solenoid.

The shift solenoid B for a 1997 Chrysler Convertible is located inside the transmission. The speed sensor has to be removed to access the bolts to remove the cover over this shift solenoid.
A shift solenoid B malfunction on a 2003 Toyota RAV4 indicates that the transmission was unable to shift properly. This can be caused by a faulty solenoid, incorrect fluid level, or a defective sensor.
The shift solenoid B in a Mitsubishi Outlander is an electrical component of the transmission system that controls the flow of transmission fluid to engage or disengage gears. It plays a crucial role in the automatic transmission's operation, impacting gear shifting performance and responsiveness. If the solenoid malfunctions, it can lead to shifting issues, poor acceleration, or even transmission failure. Diagnosing problems with shift solenoid B often involves checking for error codes and inspecting the solenoid for electrical or mechanical failures.
No
It will be on top of the transmission near the shift linkage. It is the sensor with the three wires connected to it.

Could be a speed sensor or shift solenoid. Its probably electrical related rather that transmission related. Had the same problem with my 92 Grand Caravan. Speed Sensor fixed the problem.
To change the shift solenoid on a 2000 Toyota Tundra, first, disconnect the battery to ensure safety. Remove the transmission pan by loosening the bolts and draining the fluid. Locate the shift solenoid, typically found on the valve body, and unplug the electrical connector before removing the old solenoid. Install the new solenoid in the same position, reconnect the electrical connector, reattach the transmission pan, and refill the transmission fluid as needed.
