How do you get rid of a clogged toilet?

Most likely problem is the flapper in the bottom of the tank. Simply replace it. Also, sometimes the chain can be too long and get caught under the flapper. It should be just long enough to reach from the lever arm to the top of the flapper with out pulling on it. Some new toilets have a float on the chain that has to be set at the right height.

You have to replace tank valve in tank. First try to bend the arm slightly downward that holds the ball and and lift up on ball to see if it shuts off-if not you need a new one from a hardware store about the same height. Turn off valve in wall, remove/replace-it's very easy for a novice to do

Insert the snake into your toilet and start feeding it into the drain to cranking the handle to break the clog. Once you get through the clog you should see the water go rushing out of the bowl, a sign of relief! If the plumbers helper didn't clear the line you need to get a plumbers snake. Outside your house in the area of the bathroom there is a cleanout plug. Unscrew the plug and rod out the drain line with the snake. If this doesn't work, call a plumber.

You shut off the valve on the inlet pipe then flush the toilet. Now sponge the remaining water out of tank and bowl. Get an old towel to put under back of toilet and remove inlet pipe from both ends. Now unscrew the 2 (or sometimes 4) holding bolts and the lift toilet off the floor. I always have an old cardboard box or similar to sit it on, as the wax seal will make a floor sticky. Remove the toilet from the room to make space for the new one. Fit a new wax seal to the flange on the floor and fit new mounting bolts if necessary. Now re-fit the new toilet onto the bolts and wax seal. Gently rock it to settle the seal down, then fit nuts on and tighten it down. I always fit a new SS braided supply tube rather than the grey plastic junk, this needs no sealant or tape, just tighten the bolts .

This is NOT a difficult job, you don't need ANY special knowledge, just common sense.

Install a new flapper . That is the valve at base of tank into toilet. Very easy too fix. Take old one out to store . Buy same one, go home and fit.
