On BG1, go to your main character's character sheet, 'records' and 'export'. This can be imported in BG2.
You can, you need to Export the character and import him/her into BG2.

It will ask you when you start a new character if you would like to import an ME1 character. You then select the storage location of that character (removable storage, HDD, etc) and select which character you would like to import.
You Cant import your character from Dragon age Origins. You Play as a character named Hawke Throughout the game. So there is no way to get the strength you had on your old character. If there is importing it will most likely effect Hawke's world through the choices the Warden made.
I wouldn't say any of BG2's characters are secret, ie, they're all introduced to you during the course of the game's plot. However the expansion, Throne of Bhaal, gives a character who's a bit of a surprise, Sarevok, the player character's half-brother and the original Baldur's Gate antagonist.
