A child has a natural biological clock that induces sleep.Children who are very active normally get exhausted and go off to sleep early. As a child grows the biological clock tends to change with the late activity at home with the parents watching TV,computers, parties etc.
A routine timing at home can reset the bio-clock cycle gradually.
Safe sleep inducers like a glass of warm milk before bed, soothing music, reading a book or telling a story to the child can set the bio clock but is not an instant remedy but a long term method.
As a kid myself, i recommend making the room nice and comfy, and later in the day, use blue or dark lights to cause sleepiness. Red will keep him awake.
Apart from the above inducers to put a child to sleep the emotive factor should not be neglected. A child feels secure with someone he/she knows loves and cares. The child can be induced by talking softly or telling a story about fairies and magical world. This helps a child to imagine such a world and quickly leave the conscious world to the world of dreams.
He was extremely tired after a restless sleep.
It helps you sleep and helps you not to be so tired in the morning, unless done right before bedtime. Then it can make you energetic and restless.

Many factors contribute to restless sleep in infants and babies alike. The most common cause is environmental distractions such as a noisy room, loud pets, etc. It is best to consult your pediatrician as restless sleep should go away as the baby gets older.
Lily notices that the new child, Gabriel, doesn't sleep through the night and is restless and not developing as quickly as other children. She also observes that he has unusual, light-colored eyes.

Restive means impatient of control or restraint. Restless means uneasy or unquiet, unable to remain at rest; perpetually agitated or in motion. A horse may be restless when loose in a field, but can only be restive if it is resisting control. A child can be restless from boredom, but can only be restive if someone is trying to make him do what he does not want.
You first feed the child, sit him or her down to watch a movie and if they don't go to sleep then, tell them a story but they will most likely fall asleep during the movie.
