You need mordants and other such things to control and set your dyes. Much as this is a fascinating process it is best left for another project. You could also make your own dye using fruits or vegetables like beetroot because they have a strong color. All you have to do is put some beetroot in a bowl of water and wait for the water to change color. The color should be strong otherwise the dye will not work. If the color is not strong enough keep adding beetroot till it is. Then when that is doe the dye should be ready. Put the shirt you want in the dye and leave it there for some time. This may even take a week. JUST TO GIVE YOU A TIP: Use hot beetroot because it works better when you dye clothes.
