Brown candles are produced when you mix green and red. In times past, they used to be called 'voodoo' candles in the deep south. because the color 'green' is not a basic color, the answer could also be; to mix blue and yellow which makes green, and then mix red.

There is no way to know from the question. Aniline dye would probably make it more dense, but I have no doubt that there are means to color a candle that would make it less dense.
