To replace a transmission drive belt on a Cub Cadet LT1045 or LT 1050 you need to remove the deck, preferably put the front wheels up on blocks or stands, unplug the PTO power (directly under the engine, which can be difficult ), use an impact wrench (you need the speed of the impact wrench because the engine will turn) and a 5/8" socket and reverse the bolt out of the PTO. If you don't have an impact wrench take a spark plug out and push rope into the hole. This will bind the cylinder and keep the drive shaft from turning. Remove rope and replace plug when finished. Battery and/or spark plug wires should be removed for this process for safety.
The PTO may be stuck on there so you may want to tap it with a hammer and a block of wood carefully to release it. Loosen old belt from tensioner pulley. Lower engine pulley on drive shaft, below pulley "keys". It may be difficult to remove. Spray with "PB Blaster" or similar bolt loosener spray. Remove old belt from engine pulley first, transmission pulley last. Remember how belt goes around pulleys before doing so, draw a map if needed.
You'll need to put the belt on the transmission pulley first then thread the belt up to the engine pulley. Thread your belt back through the pulleys and tensioner (make sure your spring is strong enough to tension the belt or buy a new one).
The PTO is "keyed" on the shaft. Replace bolt and washer. Torque bolt to 38-50 ft. lbs. using the rope method as described before. Put your deck back on and you're ready to mow again. Give yourself an hour for this one.
More Information:
1. Rope in sparkplug hole does work, takes about 3 ft of 1/4 - 1/2 inch rope, remove black engine cover first for easy access
2. I didnt remove belt drive pully just bent back the tabs and then rebent after installing belt
3. 5/8 Bolt on bottom was a monster to get off. Had to use a breaker bar for the first 1/2 inch of bolt.
4. On my O7 1045 the belt was 954-0461
I couldn't get the pulley off the shaft, I imagine this is your problem too. I just removed the 4 bolts that hold the engine down, tilted it up (also had to remove the exhaust heat shield) and worked the old belt off and the new one on. Much easier than trying to get that pulley off! Even simpler just bend the guide tabs out of the way slip in the new belt and bend them back - two minute job don't attempt to remove the pulley they don't come off without a fight and usually with tears.
Loosen the drive belt tensioner pulley. Remove the drive belt. Put the new drive belt on the pulley. Tighten the tensioner pulley.

How do you replace a drive belt on a cub cadet 1045 mower
how do you change drive belt on a ltx 1040 cub cadet
No the drive belt and Deck belt are two different belts, one powers the rear wheels, the other powers the deck. though if you are asking if they are the same belt as in same size, I don't know, you'll have to check your owners manual or talk to someone who repairs or can get parts for Cub Cadet mowers.
You can replace the drive belt on cub cadet RZT 50 by first making sure that the engine of the vehicle is turned off. Then you can pop open the hood and remove the belt.
Dont know either
You can replace the transmission belt, on a Cub Cadet 1042, by loosening the tensioner pulley. Once the tensioner pulley is loose the belt will easily come off.
The drive belt on a Cub Cadet LX1040 is adjusted by turning a small bolt on the side of the cutting deck. It loosens or tightens the belt depending on the direction it is turned.
what model and which belt? If it is a 1000 series you have a transmission drive belt and a deck belt. I you have a 2000 series or higher or a cub cadet with an IH logo then you only have one belt the deck belt and no drive belt you have a drive shaft. So the model of the tractor and what belt needs to be given before the correct answer can be given.Phil
