To replace the whole tail light just open the tail gate and you will see two screws holding the light in place. take out the screws and the light can be pulled away from the body of the car, you will then need to simply unplug the bulbs and it will come straight out.
If its only a bulb that needs changing, once you have the tail light removed from the body of the car the bulbs will just unclip from the tail light.

Last I checked the LS doesnt' have a tail gate, they have a trunk lid. There are 3 nuts that hold the housing in place, they should be 10mm (if I remember correctly) You will need to pull the carpet liner away from the area of the lights so you can access the nuts to remove the light housing. When you pull the housing out, you will need to unclip the WIRE HARNESS from the bulb and then the bulb will need to be twisted in order to remove from the tail light housing.

That 1st answer is totally WRONG!!!!
1st take off trunk skid plate, BE CAREFUL not to break clips!
Then follow above instructions, pull back carpet and use 10mm to remove the 3 nuts, you will need a short ratchet to work it best.
Replace the brake pads.
Pull the carpeting behind the brake light. Unclip the assembly, replace bulb.
