There really is no need to retune a 5 string bass to drop-C, unless your 5 strings are tuned to E-A-D-G-C. But under most normal (factory) setups, the 5th string is a low B, resulting in B-E-A-D-G tuning. The C to which you are referring is at the 1st fret of the low B, so the term "drop-C" doesn't really apply since the C is "raised" half a step on the low B string. But just anchor your root finger there on the low C, and play away. 5 strings were created just for this purpose - so you didn't have to retune, as is the case for many drop-D tunings on a 4 string bass, which means the fingerboard layout changes.
I play in a drob c band and i have a 5 string bass. I got i set up so i could tune it GCGCF. This does only let you have three different strings however its easy to change octaves quicly. You don't in 4-string bass, you can't anyway. To get drop B sound, you need either 5 string bass in stardard tune - B.E.A.D.G.or buy a single B string, replace the E string in 4-string bass.
To drop the tuning on a 5-string bass, you need to loosen the strings to lower their pitch. This can be done by turning the tuning pegs counterclockwise until the desired tuning is reached. Make sure to tune each string evenly to maintain proper tension and avoid damage to the instrument.
The standard tuning notes for a 5-string bass guitar in drop A tuning are A, E, A, D, and G.
