Use dishwashing soap. A brand new decent bodyboard usually has like an oil-based finishing on the top... so the best thing to do is to get dishwashing soap and gently wash the finishing off... you'll feel the difference. That way, when you're droping in on a wave, you don't go slipping right off. You should also make sure you use wax on the board. I usually use "sticky bumps" wax.

Leather seats are increasingly slippery after they have been polished. To avoid slipperiness, cease polishing your leather seats.
It is not recommended to use hairspray on a balance beam to make it less slippery. Hairspray can leave a residue that may actually make the surface stickier or even more slippery. Instead, consider using chalk or grip tape specifically designed for balance beams.

Clorox bleach is a base, as opposed to an acid. The oils that the body generates are slightly acidic, and the bleach interacts with these oils to create a soap, which is the source of the slippery feeling.
