How to set the timing on a Yamaha banshee?

You start off by setting the piston to TDC (top dead center). there is a "T" on the magneto to assist with that. once the motor is at TDC you take the exhaust valve(front one) , there are 3 numbers with arrows. take the #1 arrow and point it toward the front of the motor at the gasket surface and the #2 arrow will be pointing strait up at a roll pin of the cam chain from that roll pin, counting it as #1 count out 15 pins. on the intake valve there are also 3 numbers and arrows. on the 15th pin set the #3 arrow of the intake valve. Now the timing is set put it back together using all torque specs. the bolts are very easy to strip.

On a stock Yamaha banshee the timing is fixed from the factory by using a key on the crankshaft that sets the flywheel in a specific location, the pickup coil location in relationship to the flywheel trigger plates, and three fixed mounting holes in the timing plate.

There are a couple ways to modify the stock timing such as offset flywheel keys and adjustable backing plates that allow you to adjust where the pickup sets in relation to the trigger plates on the flywheel and the stator coil positions.

Most people choose to buy an adjustable timing plate. You will absolutely require a flywheel puller SPECIFICALLY made for this application to avoid costly damage- do not ignor this warning. The new plate will have timing marks to set your timing in relation to the stock timing I.E. +4 degrees. You should not exceed +4 degrees unless you know what you are doing.

For the mechanically inclined or machinists, the stock timing plate can be modified for an additional +4 degrees by milling the mounting holes 0.157" so as to allow the stator to rotate CW when facing it in the mounted position.

An offset key is not a reliable solution.

To set timing on a 94 or 95 Yamaha Timber Wolf, pull the gas tank and the spark plug. Remove the two covers on top and at the side of the head. With a 17 mm, roll the motor over until a T mark is seen on the rotor inside the sight on the side cover. There is a free play in both the intake and exhaust valve rockers.

1) Turn the key to "ON."

2) Pust the "SELECT" button and "RESET" button together at least two seconds.

3) When the hour digits start flashing, push the "RESET" button to set the hours

4) Push the "SELECT" button, and the minute digits start flashing

5) Push the "RESET" button to set the minutes

6) Push the "SELECT" button and then release it to start the clock.

faster than any 14 needs to go wait till your 17 my friend couldn't handle power and my neghbor has one and it prob goes about 80 to 90 with mods

read the manual. set the flywheel to T and top chain sprocket to O and put the chain on. piece of cake.
