Braiding will only hurt your head if you pull too tightly on the hair to contain it in the braid. The longer you leave a braid in the more likely it will give you a sore head.
It probably would depend on how big your head is( not a joke I have a fairly big head and I used the freetress dragon curl and I had to buy 4or 5 packs) and it probably would depend on how thick or full u would want your hair. If you have a small head 2 or three packs may be enough maybe less. Or do like did and buy a pack and take it to the person who is braiding your hair and ask them how many do they think u will need
