Most oxygen sensors are heated oxygen sensors.
an o2 sensor is the same as an oxygen sensor. vehicles can have up to 4
there are two 02 sensors on a 97 they are easy to replace,i have seen these sensors for around 90$ which is high for an 02 sensor but can easily be done yourself, if you can find a low mileage one in a junk yard you could do it for a few dollars
the 02 sensor has nothing to do with gas mileage. it sipley is a sensor that reads the oxygen level in your exhaust for emissions.
where is the oxygen sensor location on a 1998 explorer bank 2 sensor
you must have the codes read and see if the 02 sensor is even the reason for the light. And yes you can remove it bu csr will not get good gas mileage
unplug it from wiring harness and unscrew the o2 sensor from the exhaust pipes, and reverse the process with the new one
the oxygen sensor or 02 sensor is usually located on you headers it should take a 5/8 wrench it will have two wires coming off of it.
