I believe it is 15 ft., it varies from state to state, normally there will be a yellow curb marking the no parking zone. If there is no curb or no marking 15 ft would be a good guideline. Sometimes cities have smaller no parking zones for some hydrants.
You can never stop at a red curb. You can stop at a yellow curb but only to load or unload freight and/or passengers. You can not park in either of these zones.
