It is a small tool used to break or "unpick" a sewing stitch, sometimes referred to as a seam ripper
would you believe , its called a 'quick unpick' it comes in a case much like a mascara case. the actual unpicker pushes into the holder, and to use it you pull out the unit, reverse it and push it back in. then, you have a holder with the unpicker at the other ende to the holder. Dave
its made from metal
They are used for picking your nose
The clue's in the name - ripping stitches! Its used for undoing seams if you have made a mistake or want to change a garment. You can use a small pair of sharp scissers instead, but a stitch ripper is easier and sometimes less likely to accidently harm the garment.
The opposite of "pick up" is "drop off."
People have had to rip out stitching, I am sure, for as long as they have been sewing. Needles, scissors another implements can be used, but the easiest is the kind that has a sharp, forked end that can be placed under the stitch.

No, the stitch up after a magic loop slip stitch does not count as your first stitch, the magic loop slip stitch does.
