Wood from a coppiced tree. Coppicing is the practice of cutting trees at the base and allowing shoots (suckers or coppices) to grow from the stump. Coppiced trees grow faster and live longer then single trunked trees (standards) and can be harvested for wood products on a shorter cycle. Coppices are used for firewood, charcoal making, fence posts, basketry and many other products and crafts.
