What is potpourri?

potpourri means a mixture of things, such as differet tunes or songs presented as one but complimenting one another. We are famaliar with it as an aromatic for an area, a room perhaps. It can be flower petals and spices together in an open dish, or perhaps, and famaliarly, thin wood shavings soak in spices or something aromatic also left in an open container or dish, the purpose of which is to make the area smell better, but the word can be properly used to describe most any mixture of things.
