Crescent wrenches ( Adjustable spanners in Britain ) usually come in length sizes. I have 4, 6, 8,10, 12 and 16 inch crescent wrenches made by various companies. I have Crescent, Ridgid, King Dick, Mac, MasterCraft, Proto and Bahco. Two of my Bahco wrenches are 'Wide-mouth' , opening about 20% more than similar wrenches.
Allen wrenches are available in various sizes, typically ranging from 0.05 inches to 1 inch, with metric sizes also available.

Wrenches or spanners are most useful. Sockets are very useful in many cases. I keep complete sets of both SAE and Metric wrenches in my car. along with Allen wrenches of both types. I do have some excellent adjustable ( crescent ) wrenches, but prefer wrenches that fit exactly as I was taught in maintaining aircreft.
No, there are at least 4 main sizes.
There are several types of spanners, commonly categorized into two main groups: adjustable spanners and fixed spanners. Adjustable spanners, like the crescent wrench, allow for varying sizes of nuts and bolts, while fixed spanners, such as open-end and box-end wrenches, have a specific size. Other types include socket wrenches, torque wrenches, and combination wrenches, each designed for specific applications. Overall, the variety of spanners available caters to different fastening needs in mechanical and construction tasks.

The function of a wrench depends on what type of wrench it is. In general, small flat wrenches have two 'flats' that are sized to particular bolt or nut sizes. These wrenches are used to loosen or tighten nuts onto bolts. The crescent wrench is able to be adjusted to many sizes of nuts and are handy to have in a tight corner when you don't know the size. Ratchet wrenches are used to do up or loosen nuts quickly where movement may be restricted and you have to re-seat an ordinary wrench after each partial turn. Box wrenches have round heads, able to completely encompass the nut and are very useful where nuts are rusted or otherwise extremely tight. Pipe wrenches are usually larger jawed wrenches used to grip large pipe nuts and pipes themselves in Plumbing work.
