there is something called a ball winder it allows u to take a skein of yarn and turn it into cakes. im not sure y its called a ball winder if it doesnt acutally make a ball but the cakes r actually easier to use. they r flat on top and bottom so it sits still an it pulls from the center to prevent movement. there r the older versions of the ball winders that help u make ur skein into a ball if u prefer it that way but its not as fast. u can find both online at places like eBay and joanns
