wood
Trebuchets were weapons of destruction. They were made from wood because it was easier to transport them, and because there was a plentiful supply of wood to make them out of. Stone was too heavy to use for this weapon, because it would not be able to throw things far enough for its initial purpose.
trebuchets were made for a siege. They were made near forests as there would be a large supply of wood. The trebuchets would not be made at their castle as their soldiers would be tired of pushing the trebuchet to the enemies castle and by the time they would get to their enemies castle they would be too tired to fight and would most likely lose the battle.

The pierrier is a stone throwing device and is used to cover a number of different types of war engine. Pierriers were employed either to smash walls or to throw projectiles over them. All pierriers were made from wood. There are different types: the traction trebuchets, counterweight trebuchets, onagers (mangonels) and balistas (springalds).Of course, the sling shot was the very first type.
Typical building supplies for trebuchets included sturdy wood, such as oak or other hardwoods, for the frame and arm. Ropes made from natural fibers like hemp or sisal were used for the sling and to create tension. Additional materials included stone or metal for weights, which provided the necessary force for launching projectiles. Some designs also incorporated metal fasteners or brackets for added stability and durability.
