the word - satin - does not appear.

However, it is possible that the questioner mistyped the question, and intended to ask about Satan, who is first named in

Satan (not satin) is an untranslated Hebrew word. Although you misspelled it, you are right in not capitalising it as it is not a proper name (despite popular belief). When translated, Satan simply means 'opponent' or 'adversary'.

The first time Satan appears in the Old Testament is in Numbers 22:22:

"And God's anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the Lord stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him." Num 22:22 (KJV)

Where is Satan here? If we do not bother to translate the word Satan we get:
