I understand it is under the transmission closer to back of car. Waiting for my new switch to come in to know more.

On a 1972 VW Beetle, the backup light switch is located on the transmission. Specifically, it is mounted on the side of the transmission case, near the shift lever. When the vehicle is in reverse, the switch activates the backup lights. To access it, you may need to raise the car to reach the transmission area easily.
Pull out on the light switch when you have turned it to the right to turn on the lights.
There is no 'clutch switch' on a Beetle.
There is nothing to "reset" for the 1999 VW Beetle.
To change the ignition switch on a 1970 VW Beetle, first disconnect the battery to ensure safety. Remove the steering column cover by unscrewing the screws, then locate the ignition switch mounted on the steering column. Disconnect the wiring harness from the old switch and unscrew it from its mount. Finally, install the new ignition switch by reversing the process, ensuring all connections are secure before reconnecting the battery.
