Thankfully technology has improved and we can now cut fabric with a rotary cutter, a sharp, pizza cutter like blade that can cut through four layers of fabric at a time. The better we cut our fabric, the better our quilt will come together and the easier the quilt making process will feel.

The basic supplies are needls and thread and material and scissors. There are a lot of great quilting books for beginners like, 'The Joy Of Quilting' and '101 Fabulous Rotary Quilts'. There are many others as well and the store where you buy the supplies will probably have books on quilting as well.

To cut fabric with a rotary cutter effectively and accurately, first ensure the fabric is flat and smooth. Place a cutting mat underneath the fabric to protect your work surface. Use a ruler or cutting guide to measure and mark the cutting lines. Hold the ruler firmly in place and use the rotary cutter to slice through the fabric in a smooth, continuous motion. Be sure to keep your fingers away from the blade for safety.
